Seeing Jeter and Posada both out of the lineup is something we only expect in pre-season or inconsequential games at the end of the season, but today is not unique. Of Yankee lineups in 2007, there were three times both Jeter and Posada did not appear in the starting lineup together. Those dates were:
June 7th (W, CWS)
August 26th (L, DET)
September 27th (W, TBR)
So it's not all horrible news. Shut.. UP.. stomach! Except that Morgan Ensberg just got put on the DL due to an ankle injury. Alberto Gonzalez gets the start at short. Molina has been completely clad in precautionary bubble wrap. Here's hoping Giambi's feels as fair as Farragut. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! In other optimistic news, Ian Kennedy's debut was not entirely dismal: he didn't get struck bodily by any of the balls zipping past him off of the Rays' hitters' bats when he wasn't walking them. He's on the mound while the Royals send Zack Greinke, who fared far better in his opener, allowing six hits and one run while walking two in seven innings against the Tigers.

Abraham reports Ensberg's ankle has been miraculously cured:
UPDATE, 7:46 p.m.: Morgan Ensberg survived. Shelley Duncan was just optioned to Triple-A Scranton. Why they wait to 15 minutes before the game to reveal that, I have no idea. But that’s the move.

Pete Abe says it's an injury (he's guessing), but I've heard that the YES network is reporting that rain is coming and they don't want to waste Kennedy, so Bruney is starting.

I don't know if I am more annoy by this team that can't score or last year's whose can't pitch.
All things considering, that wasn't a bad outing for the Yanks pitching. Unforunately, the hitting wasn't there at all..
