Is this the best April Fool's Day prank since Sidd Finch wandered onto the pages of Sports Illustrated, lo so many years ago? It's tempting to think Alan Schwarz and his friends at the NYT Science desk are toying with us. But probably not.

I was going to post this same link. Glad you you did. Very interesting stuff, and I don't see how it would be a prank - it seems to be based on their actual tendencies. And the method is sound:

Not April Fools. I was experimenting with Chernoff faces to represent data in 1983 when I was working at Grumman
