Keep It Going: Tigers-Yanks Gamer I

Detroit comes to town with the worst record in their division but had won four straight before dropping two of three hosting the Halos. Curtis Granderson is on fire, but Kenny Rogers has been struggling. He faces Phil Hughes tonight in the Bronx as the Bomber return on a high note taking their last two games at Cleveland. Sorry for the brief post, crunchy day.

any word on abreu's injury?

Abreu?

mlb radio said he tweeked his knee going back to first on a throw over.

Tie game, Home Run Robbie Cano.

Was listening in the car, didn't hear anything about that. Watching the game on TV now, if I hear anything I will post it.

Ok Phil 2-2 game, now attack these hitters. Stop nibbling!

HR Granderson, Tigers 3-2.

well bobby's still in the field. so i guess it was no big deal. radio has a way painting a less than accurate picture.

I am fairly certain Phil will be good eventually, but the growing pains are starting to SUUUUCCCK.

No outs, Polanco on 2nd with double and Sheffield, Ordonez and Cabrera up.

About time Cano did something... most worthless fantasy 2nd baseman I've ever had so far!

HR Sheffield, Tigers lead 5-2.

Boy this is going to be such an enjoyable season. Hughes 5 runs through 1 Inning. Posada injured, A-Rod injured, Bruney lost for the year...

don't know if soon-to-be interim manager david cone said it or not, but hughes doesn't trust his fastball. you can see it in his body language.

I don't get why Hughes is struggling to much. He was very good in the 2nd half last year, I'm genuinely surprised to see this out of the gate in 2008. Happy, but surprised.

The Yanks are lucky Rogers sucks balls.

Got home just in time to see Cano choke again...looks like Hughes still sucks! If it looks like a duck and quakes like a duck...

we suck so bad...send hughes and kennedy to AAA to learn to pitch. You can't learn in the bigs!!!! Bright side? We get to burn the whole pen again today in the first game of the series...

Let's swap Hughs and IPK with Giambi and Cano.

Meanwhile Ohlendorf has been lights out...go figure.

"keep it going"

That's exactly what he did. Hughes I mean.:)

See...the dig that Brad just stuck in here, and he is a SF if I'm not mistaken is exactly the kind of crap that is allowed to go on. Just because you put a :) doesn't mean the comment is clever, or cute or called for. If one of us did that in a Sox game chat...watch out. Seriously Brad...go away. Anyone else agree???

Yeah Brad, no need to be a dick on the Yankee gamer.

Leyland is an idiot. The guy walks the bases loaded.. and you leave him in to face Jeter?

Stupid. Stupid.

Now he HITS Jeter and drives in a run.. and Leyland FINALLY gets up.

and he hits him with a pitch! Leyland goes to the bullpen. Todd Jones?

Clay Rapada in for the Togers to face Abreu with the bases loaded.

crap. Abreu grounds out.

I would have Jones in now.

Its strange being angry at Leyland. I have an irrational like for the guy. I just love his personality.

Whew. Inning over.

Nice attempt by Cano. Came pretty close to catching that.

Latroy Hawkins. Oh goodie.

krueg:

I appreciate the territorial aspect of game threads, and I don't condone generic antagonism, but I find Brad's comment, while certainly impolite, to be one of the weaker examples of game thread trolling and nothing even remotely police-worthy. I don't think his comment was necessarily warranted or polite, but it's also not really worthy of such a heated response. Your comment about these things "being allowed to go on" is also extreme - Brad's comment is hardly worthy of anything other than crickets, basically. Especially considering he did qualify it with an icon, whatever you think of that icon.

I don't want this to be read as a reflexive defense of a fellow SF. It's not. We don't encourage game thread trolling by any means. But I don't like the generalizations about what we "allow" and what we don't here at YFSF.

Pirates get one of Wagner to tie it.

AMAZING play at the plate to nab the runner by the D-backs over in Arizona.

And Hawkins induces the DP. Great bullpen work. Good thing Phil blew again.

Whoa.
Okay, I'm sorry that I pointed out that Hughes continued to pitch the way he has. I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to do that.
Calm down, folks: It really was meant as a joke.

Both of our teams have pretty glaring weaknesses so far. The Sox are plagued by a shaky back end of the rotation (though brilliant the last tiems out) and a even shakier bullpen. The Yanks have a shakey back end of the rotation and a shakey (though almost assured to wake up) offense.

Both teams have been victimized by nasty schedules. Both the Soxc and the Yanks have played extremely long stretches without rest and whiel the Yanks have played more games on the road, the Sox have traveled further.

Really the schedule makers were just MEAN to our teams this year

Hey anyone remember the Tigers pen sucking last year?

Yeah... I think the Yankees left 2007 calenders up in the Visitors clubhouse. Sneaky sneaky.

Hmm.. I gotta say if Im Cano, I dont try and go for the homer here. Try to get on and get Melky up.,

Or go for it and strike out in three pitches. whatever.

"the veteran Todd Jones nails it down for the even more of a veteran Kenny Rogers"

ooooh! I get it. 'cause they're old. Hilarious *sarcasm*

Man, the calls for Phils head over in Lohud are terrifying. DO they really think he's worthless? Lester pitched a great game tonight, and I love the kid and hope he does great thigns for us... but Hughes is a far superior talent.

If Lohud ran the Yankees, I'm pretty sure Theo could pull off a Lester for Hughes trade straight up.

If you don't like the generalization SF, then don't embolden the nonsense by blasting YF's for conversation or opinion ( A YF's ridiculous ban comes to mind) and allow "jokes" at the other teams expense in the game threads. I will expect the same leniency when I start popping into Sox game threads to point out the obvious shortcomings of the Sox...but I'll use a :) and it will be all good, right?

Great joke Brad. I see what you did...you took the title of the thread, and used it to point out how bad Hughes has been pitching. You're so clever. I envy your quick wit. You must be so proud.

A-Rod to the DL.

According to PeteAbe, A-ROD is being put on the DL now. The sox will have a window over the next few weeks to pull away from the yankees. Ill be happy if we can keep it close, but this is brutal for us. Our two most important offensive players go down in 2 games.

As for Brad's comment, that stuff is totally out of line. Any YF doing similar during a Sox loss on a Sox gamer would be torn a new one. :)

Barry Bonds, anyone?

Hey, Kreug: are you okay, man? Really, it's just one loss, man. I really have no idea why you're acting like this. I mean, I'd be pissed too if the Red Sox' most prized prospect was looking like it was all paper talent, but he's not. It's no real reason to take it out this way, bro. We've never even said two words to each other on here. Why so negative and harsh? I didn't really realize I was supposed to be clever and intelligent when I poked fun at the reality of the situation just to appease you. In reality, I could give two cents what you think of it. I thought it was funny, and really, that's all that matters.

Out of line? Really? It was a joke. I'm sorry I bunched up so many panties with it.

As a somewhat objective bystander, Brad your comment is in line with ones that have been deemed "flame-bait" by both Sox and Yanks fans on this site. If Lester was having a crappy night and walked eight batters, and a YF popped into the Sox gamer to make a snide comment, it would not be welcome either. Things have been nice on the site for a while now, please don't let it turn into a war again? Please?

Brad - the point is that you arent supposed to come on to our gamers and "poke fun of the situation". SFs on the sox gamers demand the same and it should be no different for us. You justify your comment with one like this:

" I'd be pissed too if the Red Sox' most prized prospect was looking like it was all paper talent, but he's not"

This shows that you were here to rub salt in our wounds and that is not what the gamers are supposed to be about. Save your "analysis" for your own team's gamers. If the rolls were reversed it would be no different and there would be plenty of " SF panties in bunches" too. We are simply defending our turf.

I think you proved my point Brad...

Also: Brad just isn't that funny. He should go away for awhile and read Deadspin for a few weeks before he tries again.

I'm sorry, guys. I won't come onto your game threads any longer. I'm sorry I hit a nerve there: I didn't realize the situation with the The Franchise was so tenuous.
Jesus, you think I said something about Jeter.

Brad's first comment was innocuous, if impolite, and I take issue (major issue) with the idea that this site treats any one group of fans differently than another. It doesn't. But his second set of comments (even the most recent apology) is flat-out unacceptable. Enough of this, Brad, ok?

It's silly to think that SFs and YFs can't visit each other's game threads. We can (and should). But keep it civil, keep it to baseball. It's reasonable to discuss Hughes and his struggles (no doubt many YFs would be eager to discuss this on a reasonable, intelligent level), it's another thing to frame the comments about those struggles just to poke a beehive.

nicely said sf...........but, actually, i don't have too much of a problem with brad's comments about hughes, even in a game thread...after 2 years of hype, the guy is a classic under-achiever, so far....i'm as frustrated as the dickens over it, but brad has the right to gloat about it some...but you know the old saying about taking what you dish...i was dying to make fun of papi in a sox game thread, but held back because that can bite you on the "you know what", especially with a guy as good as him, and i wanted to respect your desire to keep the flames on low........uh, however, i take issue with your taking issue with the issue [huh?] that suggests sf's occasionally gang up on a random yf who dares to stir the pot...don't get me wrong, it's ok, even admirable, to come to the defense of your own, but you can't pretend it doesn't it happen on occasion, whether it's totally deserved or not...on the other hand, my perception [and that of some others, i believe] is that the yf's in general are more indifferent about seeing one of "theirs" take one on the chin...it's a long season, and i hope we're all not gonna get too ugly with each other too early...i don't want to peak too soon... ;)

Isn't Brad the guy who argued endlessly last year that the Beckett trade was bad for the Sox? If that's true, does anyone take his comments seriously anyway?

OK - now that really was a flame...but given Brad's "apology" (love those apologies that are actually meant to reiterate the original statement for which one is supposedly apologizing...i.e. "I'm really sorry you are so sensitive that your player sucks - I won't point it out again"), I figured no one would mind.

Like dc, I actually didn't have much of a problem with Brad's original comment. In any event, all it takes is a few more outings by Timlin and balance will be restored.

Come on IH...we're better than that. Let's not stoop to his level. That's what this site is all about I thought...rising above the typical YF vs. SF garbage.

Hughes it horrible right now. IPK is horrible right now. Timlin is horrible right now. The Red Sox offense is horrible right now. David Eckstein can barely throw the ball to first base.

There, it's all out in the open now!

Correction Krueg: you're better than that. I'm a shameless stooper. I take bait like Robbie Cano swinging at a shoulders-high fastball (unless it's thrown by mike timlin).

Agreed Krueg, that why I like this site: most people on it are very mature, objective fans that are able to distance themselves from the hate that exists in our great rivalry. Brad's comment was mild compared to some we've seen in the past, but right now both of our teams have major problems so what's the point of gloating?

"Come on IH...we're better than that. Let's not stoop to his level. That's what this site is all about I thought...rising above the typical YF vs. SF garbage"...

Seriously, guy. I didn't kick your dog. I made a joke, albeit one you didn't find amusing, about a Yankee. This is, afterall, a site which hosts both fanbases. Sometimes the topics are insightful and interesting, and sometimes someone pokes fun.
"stooping" to the level is meant as a direct insult to me - not a player, or coach, or anyone else, but me. So I ask of you, who's out of line now? Never once did I insult you, though I could have. I made a joke about a player, and you've turned it into a personal thing.
If you don't want the occasional jib at a struggling player, I suggest maybe not visiting a site that hosts such polar opposites in opinions and beliefs.
I don't know what else to say on the issue - I said sorry, and I even meant it genuinely, despite what some said.
It was a joke. I'm sure before it's all said and done, there will be more jokes at player's expense, and not from just me around here.
Again, and DC is correct, it's not that big of deal, and the retalliation could be just a bad, and I fully expected it when I posted..because it was a joke.
Poking a little fun at a player's performance(s) is hardly being immature, low-level, or any other descritive insult you can think of. It was in good fun, and not meant to make anyone upset..especially this upset.
Holy Cow.

And, that's actually pretty funny, IH. I remember saying just that. Man, I can't stand that Beckett guy. He's so cocky and such a showboater. While I'm on the topic, Manny is a showboater who doesn't give his all, Pedroia is a mediocre second baseman who may not be in the league in a couple years, Papelbon is really trying to show guys up, Varitek bitch slaps people, and Buchholz is a thief.
ha.

Methinks this is much ado about nothing.

Shakespeare was a Yanks fan...

Well I can match that Brad: Our TV commentator and former ace has a history of masturbating in the bullpen. Beat that. (get it?) :o)

/Giggle

Brad- I would never go into a Sox gamer and make a poke like you did. It's one thing to have a conversation about a player with insite and commentary. It's quite another to post a one line zinger. I just wouldn't do it. Is it a HUGE deal...no. I was more upset because I have seen YF's get blasted for things more along the lines of my first example while people like yourself seem free to get away with "jokes" because of a stupid :). SF still sticks up for the original comment.

Your second and third comments point to what you really meant with your first "joke". I really don't care what you think. I think I made my point (which you seconded and thirded(is that a word?)) and others have agreed. You can insult me as much as you want (not that you have, just threatened...OH NO!) but you have already shown your true colors so to that end, I guess you have been exposed. I guess if I thought you actually were sorry and didn't mean it as I, and others, took it then it would be fine. But your "apologies" are hardly contrition when tempered with more insults. I'm done with you.

SF still sticks up for the original comment.

Ok, enough. The original comment, as evidenced by IH's comment (and others) was NOT THAT BIG A DEAL. Brad's follow-ups were unacceptable. What more do you want, Krueg?

Let's move on from this, please.

I'm done with you

Whew.
