What trade?

The Red Sox are expected to sign Mike Timlin to a one-year $4 million deal, but offered him salary arb just in case, and also offered arb to Eric Gagne, so they can get their draft pick when he goes elsewhere to close. Coulda had two picks, finished the division with a six-game lead, and avoided a week-long hiatus from yours truly if he would have just pitched the way he was supposed to pitch. *sigh* Moving on ...

I like the Timlin deal. He still can bring it, as long as he's healthy. Whenever he does hang it up, he's got a career to be proud of. Seventeen years and counting, he hasn't had an ERA+ below 100 since 1994. He's 15th among active pitchers in career ERA, ahead of Roy Halladay, C.C. Sabathia and Josh Beckett. The dude's got four World Series rings, too. How many non-Yankees can say that?

Oh, and the Twins and Sox were supposed to meet this afternoon about whether to include either Jacoby Ellsbury or Clay Buchholz in some possible deal or whatever.

Buchholz is now involved in the deal for Santana. I hope thats not true. There's no source linked so, Im guessing its crap.. but now I'm sweating. I dont want to give up Clay!

MLB.com has a story claiming the Sox are willing to party with Ellsbury for Santana, but only in a package of Lowrie plus either Masterson or Bowden:

If we get Santana and manage to keep Buchholz and Lester, we would have seven starters:

Beckett
Santana
Matsuzaka
Schilling
Wakefield
Lester
Buchholz

Does this mean the 6-man rotation is a posibility again? Or will both Lester and Buchholz start off in Pawtucket? I would hate to see BOTH of them in AAA, especially Buchholz. I'm chomping at the bit to watch him grow.
