No Joe

Joe Girardi has said "no thanks" to the Orioles job  Here's the question: why would Girardi want that job in the first place?  A controlling, somewhat imperious boss? Check.  A relatively clueless GM?  Check.  A team with very little chance of reaching the post-season, this season or next?  Check.  A possible groundswell of support for another, much more lucrative, high-profile, and talent-funded position a few miles up the shore in just a few months (or, maybe, less)?  Check.

So why would Girardi leave the booth in New York for the dugout in Baltimore now when he can continue to watch the Yankees, learn the team, learn more about their system, interact with the front office (he is an employee, effectively, though an off-the-field one) win over the fans with his knowledge of the game and of the squad, and stay disassociated (unlike, say, Don Mattingly) from what may end being a failure of a season, all while getting ready to step in when Joe Torre decides not to continue (or is pushed out the door)? 

Joe Girardi is a smart man.

Joe never should have been fired in Florida. He did a great job with the Marlins and got screwed because their owner is an idiot.

Interestingly, Loira went to the same high school I did. Separated by many many years.. ya, and we still hate him as baseball fans.

Yeah, I wouldn't have taken the job either. In this Birds fan's assumption, they won't even begin to start winning again on a regular basis (two games in a row this week?! we're on a win streak) until the Evil Angelos is dethroned.
