Banks On It: Yanks-ChiSox DH Gamer II
Thank you to SF for posting the earlier thread, as all of your Yankee hosts were hostage to other obligations. Though he posted one thread for both games, it's obvious now that he used his magical powers to hex the Yankees to certain doom in the day game. So, here's a place to make your comments on tonight's game, as Chien-Ming Wang looks to find his mojo and faces our old friend Jose Contreras. Good news: with the rainout at Fenway, under the worst circumstances NY will be only 9 games back at the end of the day, and still tied for second. Hey, they might even win. But as your attorney I advise you to withhold judgement until you view the lineups in the extended.
Pete Abraham reports that the rain delay should last only 40 minutes or so.

He went 1-3 against the Rangers on May ninth. You can't control him. You can only hope to contain him.

My favorite line from Tyler Kepner's story on this afternoon's game, just posted at the Times:
"Alex Rodriguez made outs to end three innings for the Yankees, and went 0 for 4 to extend his slump to 2 for 21. Rodriguez, who has three runs batted in over his last 18 games, did fly out to the warning track in left field in the fourth inning."
Oof. Is that a rip on A-Rod or is Kepner really trying to find upside in a deep fly ball? I think it's the former. Harsh.

I'm with you, SF; it's a rip disguised as a mitigator.

Regarding game one/Danks:
Not sooth, but quite a bit towards sooth.

Hey! Baseball! I'm calling a win for the Yanks on a dramatic swat by Wil Nieves. Tomorrow's headlines:
Post: "Where There's A Wil There's A Way"
News: "Nieves Say Never Again!"
Times: "Mets and Sox Rained Out"
Posted by: YF | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 09:17 PM
or, YF, "Yanks win on Nieves Swat! NOT!!!"
Posted by: SF | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 09:24 PM
Ye of little faith. Here's his chance with 2 on. A long drive to the wall..going...going....go—crap! Erstad pulls it in against the wall over his shoulder. SO CLOSE.
Next time, Wil!

at this point i just feel bad for Wil. He has hit the ball hard and been robbed more times than anyone else on the yanks and he only plays once a week. That said, id take an upgrade at backup C.

ya'll ,might be better off with the catcher from Bad News Bears
Posted by: TJ | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 09:54 PM
Wow, I hadn't really looked at the White Sox' starting nine's hitting lines. What an atrocious offense they've put out this evening.

Gustavo Molina catching...... he isnt related to the other Catching Molina's is he???
Posted by: TJ | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 09:59 PM
Engelberg? I'll take Engelberg as backup catcher.
Looks like we could use Leak and Whurlitzer, too.
Meanwhile, Jeter safe on an error after the k from Abreu.

Take your base, Mr. Giambi.
Alex up w/ 2 on. I wonder how he's doing lately. Funny, the press never talks about how Alex is hitting....

Alex lashes one at Crede. Out.

Matsui drills one over Erstad on 3-0 w/ 2 outs! Double! 2 runs in!
2-0 after Cano pops to short.

Is there any information on why Johnny isnt playing?
Posted by: leaderjeter | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 10:43 PM
He's been hurting and Joe wanted to get him some time off if he could.

Where'd all the YFs go? Their team's winning and no one even cares?? 4-1 Yanks in the eighth, but not to worry Sox fans, there's still time for Farnsworth to give up somewhere around 32 runs.

THE MELK MAN DELIVERS
5-1, baby.

8-1. Couldn't you like, score those 4 extra runs in game 1? =P
Ah well.

Yanks win. Darn. *shrugs* After the first game loss, I expected them to win this one. Double headers, unless played against Texas, are usually split.

Thank god. Yanks get a win, gain a little on the Sox, and Mo looks good. Hope all you regulars are doing well. I'm studying for the CA Bar and 99% of my free time is shot. Hope you guys have great summer! LET'S GO YANK-EES!!

So I'm thinking, with Wang being taken out after 91 pitches for the otherwise unnecessary Farnsworth coinflip, he starts Sunday. That way Rasner doesn't have to be sent down.
Or he's just keeping his options open in case Rasner and DeSalvo continue their dominance. If one of them seriously falters, they could be sent down in favor of Wright or Clippard, and Wang would start on extra rest on Tuesday. But I doubt it.

Not sure if anyone is still interested in the answer to the question, but Gustavo is not related in any way to Yadier, Bengie, and Jose. Apparently he's defensively-minded and mostly offensively-devoid like Yadier and Jose though.
