On Josh Hancock, 1978–2007

A lovely eulogy for Josh Hancock, along with a commentary on the strange nature of fandom, from Will Leitch of Deadspin.

It's not unlikely he was decapitated from the impact, and witnesses said he had been drinking at Mike Shannon's.
Sad.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch continues to report that Josh probably was hammered when he crashed.
Also hints that teammates and La Russa knew he had a drinking problem.
I hope La Russa (especially given his DUI) and MLB use this as a soap box to point out the dangers of drunken driving.
This is very sad, and turning a blind eye didn't help anyone.
