Get Thee to a Gallery!

Show05091_1

This exhibition, at the First Street Gallery in New York, has started what seems to be a minor controversy.  It seems that the gallery is displaying what is purportedly a death mask of Ted Williams, as part of the cheeky "Ben Affleck 2004 World Series Collection".  This mask (seen above in all it's hideous glory) is apparently direct from Alcor, the cryogenics firm responsible for the storage of the pickled slugger.  Alcor's representatives deny the mask's authenticity, stating that they "[have] never allowed anyone to make a death mask cast of any of our patients" (emphasis mine), and the artist is sufficiently vague in his attribution of the ghastly plaster bust to throw it's origin into doubt.  We appreciate the fact that the company refers to their stiffs as "patients", but the only thing we find even vaguely (and tangentially) controversial in this whole matter is Jennifer Garner's taste in men.   No word from the gallery as to when the tomb containing Affleck's career goes on display.
